In recent years, magic truffles have gained attention as a natural way to explore consciousness, reconnect with yourself, and release emotional patterns. Yet many people still wonder: What exactly are magic truffles? How do they work? And what happens during a truffle ceremony?
This blog gives you a clear introduction to magic truffles, what you can expect from the experience, and why a guided ceremony often makes all the difference.
Magic truffles, or sclerotia, are the underground part of certain mushrooms. They contain psilocybin, a natural substance that influences how the brain processes information. The effect is temporary but can strongly change how you perceive the world.
During a session, you may notice that colors look more vivid, music sounds richer, or emotions come forward more freely. Some people experience visions or deep feelings of connection with nature, others gain insights about their personal life or relationships.
The journey is unique for each person, but participants often experience:
The experience can be uplifting, but also challenging at times. That is why proper preparation and safe guidance are so important.
In the Netherlands, fresh magic truffles are legal to buy and use. That said, legal does not automatically mean risk-free. Your mindset and your environment play a crucial role in shaping the experience.
Without the right preparation, a session can feel overwhelming, triggering fear or anxiety. Physical side effects like nausea or dizziness are also possible. For some people, old or hidden emotions may resurface.
Because of this, many people choose a guided truffle ceremony — a safe space where you’re supported by experienced facilitators and can focus entirely on the journey itself.
At Awayk Retreats, your safety and personal process are our highest priority. Our approach is fully tailored to you. From preparation to post-ceremony integration, we guide you through a carefully designed journey that is both deep and safe.
Before the retreat, we schedule an in-depth intake and introduction. In two extended (virtual) sessions, we explore your intention. What would you like to understand, heal, or release?
You’ll also receive practical tools such as breathwork and meditation techniques. These help you enter the ceremony grounded, clear, and fully supported. We view preparation as a vital part of the process, not just a formality.
The retreat takes place over two nights at a peaceful, nature-based location. You’ll stay in your own private room, allowing you to fully arrive and feel safe.
The ceremony itself lasts around five to six hours and is guided by experienced facilitators. With the support of music, meditation, and a nurturing environment, you are invited to surrender to the experience at your own pace, free from pressure or expectation.
After the ceremony, we dedicate plenty of time to reflection and integration. On the third day, we guide you in connecting your experience to your everyday life.
Which insights do you want to carry forward? What steps feel aligned?
We also stay in touch after the retreat. You’ll have two (virtual) integration sessions to support you in applying your insights in a meaningful way.
In this way, the journey doesn't end when you leave. For many, it truly begins there.
